About the Authors ...
Graeme Hyde, Victoria, Australia
Graeme Hyde began keeping birds 62 years ago and has since then developed a keen interest in native Australian birds in the wild and in aviary or bird room. He
progressed from breeding canaries and budgerigars to keeping and breeding Australian finches and small parrots. He was secretary of the Avicultural Society of
Australia (ASA) for 18 years and is in his 32nd year as editor of the society’s monthly journal Australian Aviculture. Graeme is a Life Member of the ASA and
in 2005 was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for 50 years Continuous Membership of the Society. His articles on a wide range of avian subjects have been
published in Australia, England, South Africa and America.
He has been in demand as a speaker at both avicultural meetings and national conventions in Australia. He was an invited overseas speaker at the American
Federation of Aviculture’s 1994 convention in Knoxville, Tennessee. Last year while on an overseas trip with Margaret, his wife of 44 years, he took time out to
present a color slide program “Australia’s Beautiful Birds in Color in Field and Aviary” to a bird meeting in England and two meetings in America – Parrots of the
Hills, Fountain Hills, Arizona and the Avicultural Society of America, Yorba Linda, Southern California.
In 1994 Graeme received an Avicultural Federation of Australia’s award for “Exceptional Services to Aviculture” – the highest avicultural award in Australia.
Dr. Thomas N. Tully, Louisiana
DVM, MS, Diplomate ABVP(Avian), ECAMS, Professor Zoological Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA, USA.
Dr. Tully is the lead co-author of the book, Handbook of Avian Medicine, a contributor to the double volume Clinical Avian Medicine and co-author of the
upcoming book, Manual of Exotic Pet Practice, to be released in the spring of 2008.
Dr. Tully is a prominent member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians serving many terms on the Board of Directors in various capacities, including conference
chair, and continues to pursue ground-breaking research in avian disease, which includes benefiting the cockatiel. Dr. Tully is a supporter of many avicultural
organizations and a well-known friend to aviculturists. The Cockatiel Foundation is fortunate to have Dr. Tully as its Veterinary Advisor.
Genevieve Wall, JD, California
Genevieve Wall received her Juris Doctor from Western State University and is a licensed California attorney-at-law operating a law practice in Laguina Hills,
California since 1981. Her area of specialization is in trust law, estate planning law, probate law and wills law. She is a Member of the Estate Planning and Elder Law
Sections of Orange County, the State Bar of California and a recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award in Torts.
Genny she serves as the Advisor to the Board of the Avicultural Society of America, Inc., the Legal Advisory Board Member to the National Animal Interest Alliance,
Inc. and Legal Advisor to the Cockatiel Foundation, Inc. She is the Southern California Regional Director serving on the Board of Directors of the American Federation
of Aviculture, Inc. and represents AFA affiliated bird clubs and their members in that region. Genny is also the AFA Legislative Vice President and in that capacity is
responsible for monitoring proposed legislation that impacts aviculture, and is charged with keeping the AFA Board, its membership, the general public and
government officials informed on legislative issues that relate to aviculture. In her personal life, Genny has been a life-long advocate for animal welfare, and her work
with AFA and other organizations is a natural extension of that avocation. CF is most fortunate to have Genny as one of its AFA Delegates as an AFA national
specialty organization. The Cockatiel Foundation is fortunate to have Ms. Wall as its Legal Advisor.
Linda S. Rubin, Massachusetts
Cockatiel Foundation founding president, Linda S. Rubin, is a writer, editor, speaker and avian educator of 30 years and author of the books, Multiple Bird
Households, Ultimate Parrot Guide and Cockatiel Genetics Made Easy. She is the cockatiel expert columnist for Bird Talk’s website, BirdChannel.com and is the
pet bird columnist for Australia's Talking Birds magazine. She has more than 200 articles published with an international byline and penned cockatiel columns for Cage
& Aviary Birds (UK), Bird Times, UK Birdkeeper, and AFA Watchbird, among others. She worked as senior editor for Cockatiel & Parakeet World magazine and her
features have appeared in Bird Talk, Birds USA, Critters USA, American Family & Pet Expo, Popular Cockatiels from BowTie Press and in over a dozen international
journals. She is a recipient of an AFA Silver AVY Award - the highest awards in US aviculture - for her writing in AFA Watchbird, from the American Federation of
Aviculture, Inc.
Linda currently serves on the board of directors of the American Federation of Aviculture, Inc. as Specialty Organization Vice President, public relations chair, and
AVY awards chair, and is proud to be an AFA Delegate for the Foundaton. She is a certified avian specialist with PIJAC, served as an NCS panel judge for 23 years, a
former NAPS judge, and continues as a certified panel judge with the Society of Parrot Breeders & Exhibitors, and the Cockatiel Foundation, Inc., judging shows across
the US, Canada and Puerto Rico since 1984. Linda is the facilitator of the first Cockatiel Genetics Workshops (TM) in the United States during the 1980's, and has
been a presenter at 12 national AFA conventions, including speaking on a legislative panel at the 2007 House of Delegates meeting. She's presented at the Canadian
Parrot Symposium, conferences and private meetings since 1977 - including Keynote Speaker at the First International Cockatiel Symposium in Brisbane for the
Australian National Cockatiel Society, and in Sydney for the Native Cockatiel Society of Australia, and as overseas speaker in Melbourne for the Avicultural Society
of Australia. Linda is the Founder of the Cockatiel Foundation, its webmaster, and genetics consultant.
Susan W. Farlow, Massachusetts
Susan W. Farlow owns a bird behavior consultation business, Jacot Unlimited, which provides services to parrot owners, bird clubs and organizations. She
appears in radio and television shows, including National Geographic Explorer, and she lectures widely on bird behavior. Sue has served as a behavior
consultant to Dr. Irene Pepperberg in her language work with African Grey parrots at MIT and Brandeis University. The avian advisory consultant for the
internationally exhibited art installation project, MAYPORE, her account of the project has appeared in Amazona Quarterly and online at
www.parrotchronicles.com (issue 6, 2002). Her articles have also appeared in Cockatiel & Parakeet World magazine as the former bird behavior columnist.
A strong commitment to wildlife education brings her consultation and volunteer support to Wind-Over-Wings, a raptor rehabilitation and education center in
Clinton CT. Sue is a former social worker and also completed a 2-year advanced training in Spiritual Psychology in 2003. In addition to her bird behavior
work, she provides bereavement support for individuals coping with dying or deceased companion animals. The Cockatiel Foundation is fortunate to have M.s
Farlow as its Bird Behaviorist.
Sassy Pickard, Ohio
Sassy Pickard is the Youth Program Editor for the American Federation of Aviculture, Inc., and the Youth Education & Adoption/Placement Coordinator for
the Cockatiel Foundation, Inc. Her certifications include: Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC) Certified Avian Specialist & Companion Animal Care
Specialist, Veterinary Assistant Certification, 4-H Master Pet PALS Advisor, Cleveland Animal Protection League Volunteer and Red Cross Pet First Aid
Instructor. Sassy works with placing birds and other animals and is an Evironmental and Animal Education Speaker. She is the author behind the Cockatiel
Chef for the Cockatiel Chronicle and has written dozens of recipes for cockatiel journals over the years.
Sandra Trottier, Florida
Sandra Trottier is the Southeastern Regional Coordinator for the Cockatiel Foundation. She is an experienced, advanced breeder of rare cockatiel color
mutations, specializing in cheek patch varieties and other rare color forms, breeding her birds in outdoor aviaries in the Southwest coast of Florida. Sandra
shared the story of her escaped cockatiel, which ends happily for all. Numerous photos of her birds grace the CF website including Morigan, who is also
featured in the premier issue of the Cockatiel Chronicle.
