LOCATIONS & SIGHTINGS Cockatiels are strong flyers and can cover great distances in short periods of time, therefore the states, rather than cities are highlighted. Some cockatiels are known to join small flocks of birds that lead them to bird feeders to find food. They can also pair with other escaped cockatiels, parrot-type or wild birds. If you should SIGHT a loose or flying cockatiel outdoors, please contact webmaster@CockatielFoundation.com and the sighting will be posted here with the date (Include color, markings, activity, other birds, or any other information that could be helpful). Just fill out the FOUND form under Lost and Found

REMEMBER to tell us which listing is yours!

Hello,
The cockatiel that was listed in the “found” area of
your webpage was my “son” Joey. We were re-united
yesterday by Leslie and her husband. During my
search, I had not been directed to your website, so I
did not leave a “lost” listing.
We are so very thankful that our Joey has been
returned to us, and that Leslie and her husband took
such loving care of him. When we got him home, he
happily jumped into his cage, chomped on the
various treats and food that we had waiting for him,
and almost immediately let us know that he was
ready for bed. I can’t tell you how this little rescued
(twice, since we got him from a gentleman who no
longer wanted him) character has gotten into our
hearts. We missed him terribly.
Our heartfelt thanks to Leslie and her husband (I can’t
apologize enough, but in our excitement to be
reunited, I think I failed to introduce myself and can’t
remember if he told me his name) who took our lost
soulmate in, and provided food, shelter, and love to
him in our absence.

Finding Bert - How I Found My Friend (from page 6)
c. 2009 Kelly Kramer
Bert escaped on 6/24/09 from my carelessness in leaving the screen
open; only 6 inches. Although the odds were stacked against finding
him, I refused to simply give up without a dedicated and contined
effort. He was found two weeks later on the next residential street
over. Bert is very tame and I found out he flew right on the locator's
shoulder, so his tameness was a definite plus.
The main thing to remember is to remain PERSISTENT, FOLLOW UP
ON EVERY LEAD, GIVE MULTIPLE CONTACTS, AND CHECK THEM
REGULARLY.
Several factors contributed to his recovery, and several additional
factors will contribute to keeping him from escaping again.
1. DON'T GIVE UP. Keep up your efforts to recovery. I truly believe
this and a lot of luck is what led to our reunion
2. Keep exits closed; no matter how much you trust your bird
3. Make a recording of his calls, phrases, whistles, etc.
4. Create Lost Flyers. Use large letters "LOST BIRD". "REWARD". If
you can: include a color or black and white photo, state where & when
you lost your cockatiel, provide the bird's name, and local phone
numbers and email address. Post & Repost Them Everywhere!
5. Walk or ride slowly through local areas calling & using the
recording (if you have one). Listen for a response and look high &
low. DO THIS AS MUCH AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE!
6. Use this time to also post flyers and alert neighbor's (especially
kids) and businesses. Ask if you can post a flyer at a business.
7. Post flyers at Pet Shops, Vets, Aminal Shelters, everywhere there
is high foot traffic and good visibility.
8. Post newspaper, Internet ads. The paper may charge, but this is
widespread advertising. I received several leads. Craig's List &
Recycler.com are free . For only $5.00 weekly
Recycler will list in priority a bright and colorful listing.
9. Post and search on as many Internet Lost & Found sites as
possible.
10. I am somewhat mixed about clipping Bert's wings. On 1 hand he
would not have flown very far (he didn't, but could have), but he would
have no defense against predators.
I hope my story & advice will help in reuniting you with your feathered
friend.
Best Regards,
Kelly

NEW ARTICLE: HOW TO RECOVER A LOST BIRD!
Good Morning,
I am very happy to inform you that we got Max back.
He left us on the evening of Sunday, August 9, and
we picked him up from a beautiful family about ½
mile away from us on Saturday, August 15 (about 10:
00 p.m.). I received a call from an ad I place in the
local paper (Torrance/South Bay—Daily Breeze) and
received a call last Thursday morning. But when I
went to that home, it was not Max. The wonderful
lady said this cockatiel flew into her home and
perched on her cockatiel’s cage. I really gave up
hope after this but the call I received last Saturday
night was from a family member seeing one of the
picture flyers of Max I left on a major intersection. We
are blessed to have him returned and not have taken
precautions for this not to happen again.
I love your organization and intend to join. I took so
much time off from work last week due to Max that I
need to catch up here at work but will sign up soon.
Thanks for all your help and its organizations like
yours that help reunite loved ones.
Take care,
~Karen Jones
(Thanks Karen for sharing your remarkable story
with us and we are delighted to welcome you as a
new member of the Cockatiel Foundation, Inc.)!
Received August 24, 2009:
Hi, I posted that we lost Max on August 9,
2009 and were so lucky to have a wonderful
family call us on Saturday, August 15, 2009.
We posted flyers around the neighborhood
and an Angel from this family had a feeling
that the bird that came down on one of his
relative’s car which she was washing was
Max. This was Thursday, August 13, and they
were nice enough to purchase food and a
cage but were so wonderful to give him
back. This situation has given me faith in
people overall. I contacted the Cockatiel
Foundation on August 13, 2009 that he was
lost and now we are blessed on his return.
Thanks for your wonderful website on trying
to reunite beloved cockatiels and their
families.

Hello Webmaster/Cockatiel Foundation:
Thanks so much for your caring email about
Luna. As luck would have it Luna came home just
a couple hours ago. I came out to put her cage
and some foil back on top of my car (per some
advice I got from a website) and I heard her
call...after listening hard to place her call (and with
help from a couple neighbors) someone simply
looked at a fence across the street and there she
was. She gladly let me grab her and what was
odd was that she didn't seem particularly hungry
or thirsty (she'd been gone about 40 hours and
while today has been in the low 80s, yesterday it
got up to 92: HOT). My sister that lives in Florida
told me of 3 stories she'd heard from
friends/associcated that had lost birds that came
home within 2-4 days, so this gave me a LOT of
hope.
I am very happy and also glad to know there are
concerned bird owners and organizations such as
yours that know how important these wonderful
creatures are to us. Keep up the good work! --
~Deborah
